What made President Reagen so great?

I wasn't around when he was President yet have heard that he was our greatest President ever. :)

What were some of his accomplishments that made him great?

I dispute the claim that he was the greatest president ever.  However, he was a great president.  He did something that no other president had done during the cold war and that was win it.  He did it partially by plugging our economy directly into the defense industry.  There wasn't a defense contractor that could not get a government contract.  He pushed that philosophy across the entire defense military industry from star wars to  the 600 ship navy.  The Soviet Union had no choice but to match what we were doing, but they had not a prayer to keep up with us.

He purchased loads of crude oil and put it in reserves for way way cheap, even for his time, it was cheap.  Right now it's just sitting.  I think we should use it!

Because Jimmy Carter before him, was so disastrous.

(US hostages held in Iran for 444 days, don't lie.) Of course, there's always blind-leading-blind people that are branded as Dems, that will simply not be aware of the Gas Crisis, etc. and the mess of the Carter 4 years.

Reagan's accomplishments include forging the freedom right off the bat for those hostages, and others like ensuring that ANY vehicle sold in the USA complied with Fed. Highway MPG exacting/rising standards -- better gas mileage, per model year. It was amazing (repealed by Clinton/Gore shhhhh.. Gore always "forgets" this). Reagan's most know for dilpomacy/actions vs. the Cold War/posturing-still U.S.S.R. and helping force better relations. He was pro-USA and pro-business, and was attacked by critics (mostly from cities) -- who were of course, ALREADY IGNORED by Carter (despite the photo Ops in the South Bronx, NY etc.), by Ford, and by Nixon.. who even lived in Manhattan, but knew that the USA didn't care for NYC (so he pretended he was still a reg. guy/ Californian "I was born in the house my father built"). Reagan, more than anything, was the Right Image, at the Right Time.

he added the greatest deficit to the National debt at the time,   he practically dismantled union rights, he was the president during Iran contra debacle,  he chickened out and withdrew troops after barracks  in Lebanon were bombed.

A complete rewriting of factual history is what made him great.  In other words, he wasn't.  He did more harm than any president in recent memory, and many of his policies are still s******g up our country today.  The 30-year legacy of Reagan has been extremely harmful, especially his wrong economic theory of "trickle down."  Many in politics are now coming to realize this, and the pendulum is just beginning to swing the other way.

Reagan was a SENILE OLD FOOL who did what his wealthy handlers told him to do... It was REAGAN who BROKE THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS UNION and showed AmeriKan industry how to BREAK THE UNIONS.

Reagan INVADED the PEACEFUL COUNTRY of GRENADA because the GOP wanted a WAR... the Republicans ALWAYS want a WAR because they are OWNED by the MILITARY/DEFENSE/OIL  INDUSTRIES.

Reagan was able to take anything he was told to do and make it palatable to the gullible AmeriKan public... including his attack ON THE CONSTITUTION with that stupid "WAR on drugs" which made it possible to amend the Constitution to allow Amerikan troops to be BILLETED in AmeriKan HOMES without their permission.

Reagan and his Neo-Con Born again handlers STARTED the assault against the AmeriKan people and it worked because AmeriKans are poorly educated and GULLIBLE.... so when they are told what a wonder President Reagan was.. they stand up a applaud

The ONLY difference between AmeriKans and the Chinese is, AmeriKans don't march to work in lock-step every day.
