  5. The true story is about a man who worked for a new company named Mattel. His wife liked making things and thought that little girls might be getting tired of playing with the same big rubber baby dolls. All they did was open their eyes, and pee. So she thought they would like playing with a full grown adult doll, but of course in a smaller version. She made the first Barbie Doll, and her husband took it to work with him.Nobody thought they would sell, but Mattel bought  around 100 of them anyways. To their surprise, they sold about a million of them the first season, and had back orders for about the same amount. They named the doll after their daughter. The rest is History!

  6. Toys were stressed for Christmas.  The toy companies did not  advertise them but a little or not at all the rest of the year.  Ruth Handler took Barbie and advertised her on tv and not just at Christmas time.  Her vigorous marketing plan put the doll before consumers in a way that no other toy company had ever before done.  The more it was seen only increased its visiblity in the market place.  The fact that it is available in many locations keeps the product in view of millions of consumers.  If Barbie had not been so marketed, it would not be so famous.  It had also been criticized and loved by famous personalities.

  7. A simple answer to your question is the Barbie doll was the first doll on the market where girls could pretend to be fashion models and imagine that they were Barbie.  Before Barbie they were the "Mommy" to a babydoll.  Now they became the doll and could imagine to be anything they wanted to be.  Anyone who plays with Barbie has a great imagination!

  8. → Her beautiful figure, and her cute little outfits.

  9. In 1959 the ever so popular Barbie made her debut. Barbie was inspired by Ruth Handler’s daughter’s fascination with cutout paper dolls. She was a doll in which little girls could play out their dreams. The name “Barbie” is after Ruth Handler’s daughter, Barbara’s nickname.

Ken was introduced in 1961. Ken was Barbie’s only boyfriend, and named for the Handler’s son, Ken. Soon Barbie and Ken were joined by friends of the Midge doll in 1936 and Skipper in 1965.

Christie, an African-American doll was introduced in 1968. Christie was the first of many ethnic friends of Barbie that included Theresa in 1988 and Kira in 1990.
