The Maya did their thing for longer (Preclassic 1000 BCE to 250 AD; Classic 250 AD to 900 AD; Postclassic 900 AD to 1500 AD) and over a larger territory than any of the other Meso-American civilizations.

Other civilizations had shorter reigns of glory:

Olmec from 1200 BCE to about 400 BCE.

Teotihuacan from 200 BCE to 600 AD.

Toltec from 900 AD to 1200 AD.

Aztec from 1248 AD to 1521 AD.

Well, maya were the only culture in the ancient world that understood the numerical concept of Zero. They were advanced in sutdying the space. They knew the concept of the wheel but they didn't want to use if because they thought that was a lazy attitude about life.
