Question:

What major/career should I pursue?

I'm about to start my senior year of high school in september and I still don't know what major or career I'd like to pursue. I have considered computer science and medical technology as majors in the past, but now I'm not too sure. Some of my hobbies and interests include: music, art, computers/technology, reading, etc. I'm a very quiet person and I like helping others. My best subjects are probably english and science (except chemistry) and I don't like math...I'm hoping for something enjoyable yet stable and lucrative (preferably)...Any suggestions?

  1. That's a diverse set of interests.

Here's a little secret about college - the exact major you choose won't be as important as the general field.

In most majors, about 1/3 of the classes are the same classes everyone takes (algebra, freshman writing, history).

About 1/3 are classes in your general field (an art major would take a music class, even though they're not a music major)

And about 1/3 are the junior and senior classes in your major (which you don't have to decide on for a couple years.

The biggest exception to this is engineering.  You have to start your freshman year knowing you're going into engineering.

If you don't like math, then stay out of science.  Trust me.

The music and art majors can be lucrative, but they aren't stable.

Just about every waiter in Los Angeles is trying to get into the movies.

  2. They say 'if you love what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life' -- to go with one's passion and aim to obtain a job that one would do for free :)

General career info:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'computer programmers', 'librarians' or such.

  3. Try art therapy or graphic design. Try technical writing(involves a lot of reading).-art therapy might be better for you.
