  1. Went through Loma Prieta in 89.

    No water distribution, boil it.

    roads ruptured

    soil liquification and sink holes.

    telephone system was overloaded.

    medical emergencies

broken power lines with arcing electricity

    tsunami

    gas rupture and subsequent fires

    buildings collapsing and crushing people.

  2. It really depends on which part of SoCal it hits.  Rural or urban makes a huge difference.  So does the underlying rock and soil structure.

Basically the results range somewhere between a big "yawn" to buildings falling down, gas mains rupturing, earth dams failing, and most importantly....

The media will go nuts for a few days, trying to scare the pants off everyone.  They ALWAYS go to great pains to make a localized event look like a city or statewide catastrophe.  That'll happen regardless.

Kinda like the fires we're having now.

I went through San Fernando, 1971; Marina resident during Loma Prieta in 1989; Big Bear, 1993 or so, for good sized shakes.

  3. collapses of buildings and highways

    fires

    numerous accidents

    false security alarms

cut off power, gas and water.

    interrupt communication system

    overflow emergency calls

    loose some highways and streets

    evacuate hospitals

    necessity rush

  4. Hmm.. I heard on the news that there is going to be an 8. something on November 13 2008 at around 10:00 in the morning. You should check out Kcal9news.com. And although 6.5 is kinda big. We should wait for the 8.__ Hope not much goes bad.
