What major in computers is most profitable & least amount of time to finnish

i was thinking of changing my career or maybe taking up a second one. what area in computers should i major in? are there any tech schools or trainings that might take only a year to finnish?

Programming of some sort is the most steady paying job and pays very well.  Whether you are programming operating systems, internet defense systems, or player/plug-in software, you will always have a job (so long as you don't break a wrist or lose an arm).  Your fingers will be more valuable than a concert pianist.  

    Microchip/processor engineering can be very profitable, however, what you will be trained in will become obsolete in 10-15 years.  So you will have to stay up on the latest technologies.  Or better yet, be one of the persons who is designing the newest technologies.

    If you can, becoming a game developer will provide you with a steady job for decades.  It isn't always programming, a lot of game developing is concept design/art and being able to transfer your designs to 3D functioning entities.
