  1. Most major cities and towns have supermarkets.

The main ones are Foodtown, Countdown, New World and Pak 'n' Save, the selection of these will vary in each town.  I may have omitted some as I am not so familiar with the Auckland or South Island ones.

In a limited number of locations The Warehouse is also now selling grocery items-  all of their stores are likely to carry the fuel (I think- can anyone confirm that?) and fire starters.   Camping stores will have those too but they may be more expensive.

In smaller towns without supermarkets you can probably obtain these from dairies but this is likely to be expensive, as it usually also is if you buy from dairies in locations where there also is a supermarket!

Fresh meat can be bought from butchers but this is also likely to cost more than from a supermarket, though of course there are some advantages and disadvantages either way.
