  1. ITT TECH is a good place to start, or you could do as I did and spend a good year with self teaching books. C and C++ are good programming languages even though they are hard to understand.

  2. You should definitely talk to your counselor because all colleges are different, but most likely Computer and Information Sciences.

  3. Computer Programming or Computer Science will definitely give you the background to start off with.  You may also want to take electives that will give you a background on subjects you want to program games about (eg. maybe do cosmology for space-based games, maybe a couple units of history to get the basics for period pieces like medieval-era and WWII type games, etc.)

Depending on which platform you wish to create games in though, you may need to learn certain proprietary software.  For example if you're making stuff for Nintendo or Playstation-compatibles you would have to learn a specific programming language that I doubt you can get at college, although the syntax and data types/structures may be similar to languages you are currently learning.  You can learn those by interning with a video game company while you're still studying.

Far as I know the bigger-name companies that might have internship opportunities in Northern California are Ubisoft, Koei, Konami, EA Games and Sega; and Southern California has Blizzard

  4. Go to collins collge, westwood, or ITT because they specialize in gaming careers and they can help you chose the courses required for you to become a gaming programmer. You can always check there websites for more information

  5. I'm studying Computer Science and Software Engineering in England, from experience, if you want to do game programming pick a course with good AI and Computer graphics (2D and 3D) modules, they both need to have plenty of practical hours for you to know develop your knowledge.

A good combination with programming is Maths and to strengthen your AI knowledge Psychology is good.
