  1. Contrary to popular belief you don't have to major in anything special or go to Embry-Riddle to become a professional pilot.  Major in something you enjoy, and perhaps something you could fall back in when entering a cyclical industry like aviation.

I wish I had majored in engineering, but instead I got roped into an Aviation Management degree which holds about the same status as a degree in lawn maintenance.  Do your research and visit a bunch of schools before you make any decisions.

    Good luck!

  2. Speak with some professional pilots before opting for Embry-Riddle.

  3. Really any major you want.  I'm a senior status in Biomedical sciences.  Most airlines will hire w/o a degree and if they do require one they aren't picky.  Now Embry Riddle probably has some type of degree geared towards what a professional pilot would benefit more fully from and that just check with the college.  I wouldn't spend the money on ER just to be a pilot.  Flight Safety Academy can train you and put you at a regional airline within a few years.  They are very professional and train above FAR standards.

I probably should have mentioned I'm training in the aviation field also.  I'm a student pilot but am currently working on my A&P.
