If Osama Bin Laden had been born in a developed country with a high standard of living, would he have been a different person, or was he just dealt a bad hand, genetically?

  1. OBL is from a very wealthy Saudi family. His "standard of living" was probably better than most Americans today.

The problem is Islam, and how easily it can be taken literally and become radicalized. That said, while any religion can be perverted, Islam just seems to lend itself to radical interpretations. Remember its supposed author was a WarLord, and it is a very strict religion even in terms of a moderate practice.(prayer 5 times per day. kosher requirements ,etc).

I think the major question is just how well Islam lends iself to secularization. Can Islam be peacably practiced in a secular,multi-cultural, muli-religious democratic society ?

I think that it can, but I am concerned at how easily verses from Quran can be read and interpreted radically. Not sure what could be done to prevent radical factions from springing up.

  2. Osama Bin Laden is part of a very wealthy Saudi family, who are friends with the Bush family.

Ever wondered why we never really pursued Bin Laden "to the ends of the earth?"  That's why.

  3. greed and self righteousness.

Osama bin laden i'm not really sure much of how bin laden got into power or what he wants, or why exactly he has a vendetta against westerners to the point of attacking them.

i know it's supposed to be for religious causes and this i don't doubt. many americans are religious this way. but truly what he wants and whether he is manipulating people or just leading them, i don't know, because i don't know exactly the ideals he promotes.

it is hidden from us, we never hear his logic, we hear only what western authorities say.

for all you know they are fighting for noble causes. sure you would say how could you support killing so may americans. but americans kill alot of people too. they are the only ones to have ever dropped atomic weapons on anybody. americans easily justify violence, so you don't know how justified theirs is. you don't know. certainly they believe it is. why?

i don't know him, but in all likelihood, he would not lead a terrorist group. if his motives are greedy, then he would probably be either a ceo, or a politician. if his motives are noble then he would probably be speaking publicly and writing books.

i think his genetics would determine whether he is fighting for a good cause or not. so no matter where he is born that would remain the same, but his methods i think would differ.

i am not supporting terrorism, nor violence of any kind. but i am promoting learning understanding and listening, and that we should realize that if we can justify violence, then so can others. and maybe if we heard their opinion and point of view we might learn from them and be more ready to come to an agreement. you've got to think that in order to suicide yourself for the well being of your peers you must really believe in something profound, and also be very selfless. granted you're killing lots of other people and that's really bad. they should be fighting us with information, but apparently they feel that's impossible, they are not trying to kill us all, they are trying to put fear in us, trying to stop us from doing something, trying to get us to listen. they know, that by virtue of being terrorists they cannot kill us all they cannot, capture our land, they cannot run another country. they are not trying to do this.

i'm not saying i support bin laden, i'm just saying that before you jump to conclusions about bad genetics or something, know who you're talking about and don't trust your authorities. he is obviously not a hitler, he is not trying to build an empire, he does not seem greedy to me, i think even he is fighting against greed. he believes in something. something which its details are not advertised to us.

there comes a point when americans decide they must use violence, when it is necessary, but if another decides it is necessary, we would call them evil, without even knowing why they believe it necessary.

why are they killing people? it's not for fun, i don't think they risk their lives and risk severe injury for fun.  it doesn't seem to be for wealth, they seem to be fighting against wealth... strange.  don't forget, these people are human, they are not a bunch of psychotics.. they are human.

he is certainly not a dictator though, he does not head a country, he is a leader of a people with a specific belief, people that follow him by choice.
