Hi, I have had my timneh for 3 months and ever since we got him his water smells after a few hours, I am having to change his water 3-4 times a day, but from night till morning the smell is quite strong. To give you an idea of the smell its very sulphor like, swamp water. What could be causing this, I have tried googling it but no-one else seems to have this problem. My bird does not smell and the rest of his cage does not smell, his droppings are normal, he eats a well balanced diet. Any ideas? Thank you

  1. It could just be your water coming out of the faucet. Try a bottled water or filtered and it will probably be much better! The water where I used to live(city water) and where I now live(well water) both smelled like sulfur and turned red because the rust in the water settled. We use water softener now so our bird dishes are returning to the orig. white and smelling alright now. Either way the birds don't mind and minerals in the water are good for them too. Good luck and tell me if the bottled water worked!!

  2. You can try bottled water, it may help, but you could also try using a water bottle. The type that you would buy for a rabbit. They can and will get used to it. I had a 10 and 15 year old that learned to drink from one. Just keep using the dish also until you see him using the bottle before you stop using the dish all together.
