What makes Mont Blanc pen superior to other pens?

Are they worth their monetary value in craftmanship or is it just the brand name?

I'll be honest: I cannot see any real difference with a Mont Blanc than with a Cross or a Waterman.

At this point, it has to be the marketing of it

It really must  be the brand name.  I received a Mont Blanc pen as a gift valued at $500.00.   I never use it because the quality of writing is not as good as many cheaper brands.
