  1. Better than any other city? That is a big order, and I am not sure it is better than all other US/Canadian cities. That said, I have lived and spent large amounts of time in a bunch of other US and European places and am currently part time in Seattle and part time in the Washington DC area (of those two Seattle is most certainly the better choice).

Reasons it is better than most US cities:

    1. Climate. Despite the reputation for rain, Seattle actually gets less rain than US cities east of the Mississippi, and much of the year the climate is delightful, never too hot and rarely uncomfortably cold. Having spent July in DC and looked daily at the weather in Seattle longingly, I certainly know where I want to spend summers!

    2. Landscape. The combination of water and nearby high mountains is matched in North American only by Vancouver, BC. The endless array of recreation possibilities is a strong magnet.

    3. Social. Seattle and area are exceptionally well-educated by national standards, and the per capita income level is high thanks to lots of high tech jobs. It has relatively little "rust belt" activity (Tacoma does). Let's face it, richer cities are almost always nicer than poorer ones. Being a rich city means Seattle has lots of cultural activity, good restaurants, clubs and the like.

    Bad things:

    1. November

    2. Self righteousness

  2. you want us to tell you how great it is so you can add to the pool of people that are overpopulating this place?

  3. Here is my humble attempt:

    - it is a young city compared to other American cities

    - it is a hilly city near the mountains and the sea with a

rain forest just a few hours drive away

    - it has no mafia

  4. It is because most of the US doesn't realize how great Seattle is.  So you get a great city no one else knows about.  So don't tell anyone, k!

  5. The 3 hours it takes to drive 19 miles at 5:30pm?

The overwhelming aroma of rotting sea creatures near the warf?

The homeless bums intimidating drivers for cash at 800 intersections?

The oppressive property, income, gasoline & tobacco taxes?

The 20,000 public school teachers who couldn't pass the tests they grade?

The unions for nearly all blue collar occupation that continually force price for services to increase every year?

The ease at obtaining welfare or social security income, government housing, food stamps & free health care for those that are too lazy to work?

Leading the nation in % per capita for adolescent abortions performed without parental notification?

Or is it the smoggy view of Mt. Raineer from the sewage & garbage infested shores of puget sound?
