What makes Tiger Woods the most loved and the most loathed sportsman of the century?
For some weird reason or perhaps because of some understandably subtle racially discriminating undertones, Tiger Woods is loathed and hated the most among some of the fans of the sport for all the indecent philandering he remained involved in during most
part of his professional life. His pre-professional leanings, although still need a bit of investigation.
Racial discrimination- because for the same amount of juvenile and apparently reckless and discreet love life, many of the other renowned golfers and sportsmen had a clean pass in their otherwise perverted affairs in their careers, probably because they
had a better colour on their skins.
The 14-major-champion was left reeling into obscurity after his extra-marital affairs were made public and had to face the most embarrassing moment in his life when he came out in public and apologized for his actions. His career was sent spiraling down
in a bottom-less pit and the once greatest golfer in the world has done seemingly everything to break out of his bad form.
On the other hand, the young Irishman, reigning champion of the coveted US Open title, Rory McIlroy has now decided to follow the same course of switching over girlfriends every now and then, rarely providing any reasonable logic to his diminishing interest
in one and an heightened hormonal inclination for the other.
Just 22-years-old for the moment, young McIlroy has already made a switch when he dumped his childhood friend Holly Sweeney to barge on his newly found liking for Caroline Wozniacki, who is also the world number one in women Tennis. The love birds were first
spotted by a trailing paparazzi, who captured the rare snaps of the duo embracing each other in a warm kiss.
The whole affair was blown out of proportion, leaving young and relatively inexperienced McIlroy looking for shelter soon after. He did not waste much time to walk away from the love of his life Sweeney and officially announced his liking for the Russian
Tennis star. McIlroy had earlier lauded Sweeney’s contribution in his success at the Congressional Country Club and had revealed that her active contribution played a phenomenal role in his success.
Despite of all his “casanovian” leanings, McIlroy is far from anything than what a “disgusting” creature Woods has been. Why? Well probably because the kid is still not married and as long as he is not married he enjoys every right to dump as many of his
girlfriends as he wants and keep switching lanes like his sweat shirts every day.
Colin Montgomerie, who has been a founding father of European golf, alongside the late Seve Ballesteros, also had an alleged affair with his neighbours’ wife. Being a white man, Montgomerie escaped all the surgical incisions by the controversy-savvy media
and never was the issue brought back to lime light again in his career. Although now perhaps at the twilight of his career, Montgomerie never had to face the excruciating situation of trying to improve on his sport and being embarrassed to the bone, both at
the same time. Apparently, Montgomerie did well in the aftermath of his perverted revelations.
Woods was the first and the only black man to break into the ranks of the “white men’s” sport, and that also in a manner it was never done before. Some of his victories at the Augusta and worldwide, saw the zenith of the sport and attracted a fan club which
was unprecedented in the history. He was loved by all and sundry and was loathed by the racists for being the kind of sportsmen he has been. Whether he will be able to break his winless taboo for the moment, is still one of the most sought after questions
in the sport.
