  1. A governor is a executive and a senator is a legislator.  Since both the president and VP are executives, experience as a governor is more helpful like Bush, Clinton, Carter, Reagan....

  2. The fact that The GOP says so.

Look at how well the last Gov. elected has done.

  3. Simple: A governor is part of the executive branch, just at the state level.  The powers and exercise of duty is virtually the same for a governor of a state as it is for a President of a country.  This is why many presidential candidates come from the ranks of governors.

A Senator operates in the legislative branch.  While that may be more experience in Washington, the duties and powers of a governor closer approximate the duties and powers of a president, than the duties and powers of a Senator does.

  4. Palin has PLENTY of experience. All you are hearing is whiny Libs watching Obummer go down in flames...

  5. Two words (to make the answer simple and concise): EXECUTIVE experience.

  6. Governor is the top job before becoming a President in Politics....This would be the first time a Senator becomes President in many years.....

Governors govern states which brings Executive Experience whereas Senators just pass or oppose laws....There are like 3 or 4 times as many Senators than Governors in the U.S., meaning is harder to become Governor.

Palin has the same or even more experience than Obama and yet she's running for VP, not President.....

  7. Governor has to make decisions that affect the state and the people within.  The duties includes:

Commander in Chief over the Reserve and National Guard.

    Economy

    Health Care

    ETC

The same duties the President holds at the National level; but, to their respected states.

Senate Seat; represents their state on key issues; they don't govern over a body of people nor state.

  8. It depends on the governor, who by definition has "executive" experience, and the senator in question.

Palin, for instance, has 18 months worth of such experience in a state whose population and budget is less than that of Brooklyn, NY.

On the other hand, Obama has 12 years as a State and US Senator.

  9. Because Governor is a Chief Executive position just like President is.  A senator is just one of many other senators who give speeches and vote on legislation and have no Executive responsibilities.

  10. A Governor is the boss of a states employees, which is similar to the presidents job, being the boss of all federal employees.

A senator has only a small staff and his job is to vote on legislation, he is not a manager.

  11. President, governor, mayor, and town council are all in the executive branch of government.

Senator and congress are both in the legislative branch of government.

McCain, Biden and Obama are all from the legislative branch. They know what is expected of a legislator.

Palin is from the executive branch. She knowss what's expected of an executive.

  12. A governor is an executive while a senator is a leislator. Governors lead and make critical decisions while senators propose and debate laws. The presidency is an executive postion as is a governorship. Look at it this way...when a leislator makes a bad decision it has little effect (because unless a majority of other legislators plus the chief executive are stupid too, then it will not become a law). Also, legislators debate endlessly before doing anying, so they already know what to vote for and what not to vote for (according to their cronies) ahead of time. They have plenty of time to think things over and they are in a group that makes decisions togeher. But, when a chief executive makes a decision...they make it on their own (often-times without a lot of time to consider).

    For example:

*a governor is commander in chief of the states national guard and a president is commander in chief of the armed forces.

*a governor vetos or signs legislation into law and so does a president.

*a governor serves as a spokesperson for their state and a president serves as a spokesperson for the country.

*only a governor can declare a state emergency and a only a president can declare a national emergency.

The list goes on and on...but, the point is that a Senator does none of these things (right down the line).

edit: Well, as her states chief executive Palin has an 80% approval rate. As our nations vice-president (or president)...I have no doubt that she will continue to be hard-working and dedicated to her job.

  13. Palin has bigger problems than her inexperience:

  14. As a Governor you have to lead and make sure things are getting done. You are always working weekends also.  As a senator you mostly talk about things and try to make deals. Senators do not exactly lead anyone except their staff.
