  1. I've had neither, but people tell me that parakeets make wonderful pets.  Parrots make a lot of noise, all though parakeets do too.  I have always wanted a parrot.  With a parrot, you have to have a large cage and with a parakeet you have to have a lot of space for them to fly around.  I have two ring neck doves and the only times that they are in their cages is while sleeping (the female sits on her eggs during the day too.)  If your bird is a female, make sure to distract it from laying eggs.  I recommend getting a dove because they are always gentle and are very friendly-they will play and cuddle with you.  I also heard that pigs make great pets too!  Be prepared to have a lot of responsibility with a bird.  They are harder to take care of dogs, cats, or rodents of some sort.

  2. Id say a parrot.  They make good pets!!  Hope I get best choice!!

  3. parrots can talk and interact with you, parakeets need a lot of attention but i have a parakeet that is VERY sociable. it depends on the individual bird...parrots are also bigger, you'll have to think of that.

  4. Parakeet, they are easier to handle and manage.

They learn faster and best to get a young one who can grow with you.

My mother's had them for years and they talk fly around the house and are so much fun.

    quelynn

  5. parrots you can teach  them to talk

  6. is ur a beginner than get a parrot like a budgie lovebird they can also talk but parakeets can talk better

if u want a Small bird than get a parrot if u want big one than get a parakeet

if you want a bird that can talk very good than get a parakeet is u want bird that can talk but not that good but still good than get a parrot

if you want a bird that lives for a long time than get a parakeet

i would recommend get a cocktail because they can talk good sing good there just like little parakeets

budgies can talk but it takes a long time for you to train than same with lovebirds

  7. get a kitty instead!

  8. parakeet, cheaper less maintence and you dont ned to give them as much attention

  9. As a first time bird owner, a Parakeet or a Cockatiel is your best choice. They are cheaper, require less attention, and are easier to handle (in most cases) than other birds for first time bird owners. You could even go with a Parrotlet. Quakers aren't bad birds either. It really depends what you want to do with the bird. Is noise a factor? Is the space of a cage a factor (as in does it need to be smaller or can it be bigger)? What is your budget and what kind of knowledge do you have about birds? If you have no bird experience and aren't ery knowlegeable, then go with a Parakeet or a Cockatiel. Other birds, such as Amazons, African Greys, Cockatoos, Conures, etc. are for people who have experience. Some of the birds require very experienced bird owners. This is because they require someone who knows how to handle their behaviors and care for them properly.

  10. Well, I take my conure (small parrot) tonnes of places with me during the summer time, and he absolutely loves people. I have found his is more social than a parakeet that I previously owned. He has such a personality too. He can almost act like a dog sometimes which is adorable. He loves to snuggle, and be pet all over, which I found differed from parakeets. My parakeet really did not like to be touched, but my parrot does.

One disadvantage already mentioned, is that parrots cost a lot more than parakeets. And they take way more time. Parrots are soo concerned with pleasing you that they are almost like dogs and need the time, effort and attention.

But on the up side, parrots are more known for talking than parakeets ,and have way more attitude (which I mean in a good way).

You really just need to find the bird that fits your life best. A parrot isn't a one month pet, as they get soo attached to their people. And they tend to live a lot longer than parakeets, so its a commitment that might be for 90 years, or 35 if you get a conure.

  11. I myself have parakeets so i would go with parakeets because parrots bite you so hard

when they bite you it's like 500 pounds on your finger and parakeets listen more to people then parrots my neighbor dora has a green parrot and he just bit her finger today at five.hey if you get what you want as a pet good luck.

  12. Parrots are great but need a lot of attention and i don't like budgies to much but cockatiels are great pets and don't cost as much as parrots. If you get a young hand-fed one it will bond with you and be very affectionate, males will whistle and sing and they are always entertaining.
