What makes a boat Float?

If your floating down a river in a cement canoe, and the wheels fall off, how would you save Yourself?

The boat is made out of floatable materials. I would save myself in the same way I would save myself in a regular canoe ...... swim to shore and help save anyone with me. = )

As to the question of what makes a boat float, the answer to that is that it displaces more water than what it weighs.  If the weight of the water the boat pushes away from itself is greater than what the boat weighs it floats. As to the second part about getting out?  Hope that the life jackets don't say Titanic on them.
