  1. Lack of shooting.

  2. They don't nuke each other.

  3. It is 'cold' because nobody is shooting.

    Everyone profits though.

Our factories are running at full blast, to keep the military big and fully equiped. Our farms are growing food and all that food is needed to keep the troops fed.

So in a 'cold' war everyone gets a paycheck, all factories are running, and everyone is happy.

In theory the death count should drop.

The problem though is that during our last 'cold' war our death count each year went way up.

Too many drunk driver deaths. US Military getting full pay with little to do with their time, bought new cars and had parties, which led to a much higher death rate each year.

The death rates are all on public record. During the 1980s and 1990s our military death rate was 4 X higher than it is today with the sand box going on.

That is the 'good' and the 'bad' of a cold war.

  4. The "chilling" of relations- no actual physical fighting.

  5. A WAR generates a great deal of Heat by the use of explosives and Heated words ' .

If it is a COLD WAR then I guess they try to bring trouble and strife with just being disagreeable with each other .

I have only tried to explain it the way i might have answered the question to my grand-children . May be there is a better explanation.

  6. When Russia turns off the gas and oil supplies!

  7. no guns involved. if guns are involved its known as a hot war. wonder what a nuclear war would be called?...... slightly humid??

  8. It was called the "Cold War" because of the stark relationship between communist countries and democratic countries.  However, they never actually fought one another.  Therefore it wasn't an actual war.  They call it the Cold War because there was a "cold" relationship between their ideals, and they were willing to continuasly go to the brink of war to "protect" their ideas.  But, as you know, the United States and the Soviet Union never fought one another.  That's why its called the "Cold War".

  9. No real fighting, just a lot of threats.

  10. The cold war is misnamed.  There are many different ideas of what a cold war is including a war of words, many small skirmishes around the world, a war that nobody noticed, no direct fighting between two great powers.  In fact, more people died in the Cold War than in WW1 and WW2.  Also, the Cold War has no fixed beginning, middle or end.  It just seems to rumble on.  For countries where armies and large scale selling of armaments are necessary for the economy, the Cold War is big business (mentioning no names but rearrange SUA!)

  11. its called the cold war because there were no actual battles during the "war'

  12. A cold was is when you have a war during winter months.....heheh

  13. No guns involved

  14. We didn't officially shoot at each other.   "officially" being the operative word.

  15. A 'hot' war involves killing, bombs and open declarations of war against each other.

  16. It's more of a stand-off than a physical war.  It's all about political positioning and goading without actually directly fighting eachother, even though there were times when they indirectly fought eachother.

  17. It refers to the "cold" atmosphere between the arguing sides.  It's a bit like a personal relationship that turns cold.  There's no actual war, but there is a degree of hostility in the attitudes and approach of both sides.

  18. a cold war is like a politicaly heated war there are no guns or show of force.its a political war, cold is a metephor for the type of war it is.

  19. No firearms are involved in a cold war.

  20. Because their nipples harden and their willies shrink...

  21. It is where a war could kick off at any moment but no country is willing to make a move.
