What makes a cowgirl a cowgirl?

Since in the last week people have asked what makes a cowboy a cowboy, I figured I'd ask about cowgirls.

what makes someone a cowgirl?

This is just my opinion. A girl that isn't afraid to get dirty or muss her hair. Would rather hang with horses than the girls. Will chase cows and rope just like the boys. She isn't afraid to get on any horse. You'll almost never see her unless she's wearing boots and jeans. She always has the cutest cowboy hat. She won't give the time of day to a non horse guy. She would rather smell like a horse than wear perfume. She makes all the cowboys wish.

A bow legged lady that likes her Wranglers one size too small, wears her hat down low, doesn't drink light beer, and doesn't spit out her Copenhagen.  What a woman!

The strength to get back on when every sense is telling you not too.

^^ Thats really stupid. Horses are animals. Chances are, if somethings telling you not to get on that horse, if you get on your going to wind up hurt, and getting the horse hurt in the process. I'm sick and tired of people getting on really spooky/dangerous horses just to prove themselves. Give the horse a break, let it chill, and try again tomorrow rather than rushing and s******g both of you over. Being a cowgirl is loving horses and understanding them, not being stupid to the point of self injury.

Protect the weak and helpless

Not afraid to tell someone to 'shove it'

Will attempt to ride any critter with hair...from calves, sheep, goats, the family dog

Not afraid to get dirty

Can rope

Can drink some men under the table

Can spit farther than some

Can outcuss some

Knows how to medicate, brand, castrate, birth and the rest of the jobs that come with livestock

Owns more boots and jean than high heels and dresses

Has her favorite 'ball or feed cap'

One last thing...KNOWS when and HOW to act like a lady.

**EDIt...knows how to dance...that's important!  And yes...the dog is her 'fashion' accessory.  She likes it better than most men!

Can drive a truck or a tractor as easy as some do a car.  Ha...and can park the truck in one shot!

Good Question, I betcha there are tons of good answers. For me, what makes a cowgirl a cowgirl? It's hard to put my finger on it.....but here's a few

True Independence

Someone who is strong willed with a good heart

isn't afraid to get dirt underneath her nails, can get a little dirty, she can sweat, bale hay, muck stalls and "break" a horse with patience

She can love em and leave em but decide when she's found the one not to leave

can live with only a few necessities

Loves George Strait

Can drive a truck pulling a trailer

Loves the outdoors

Free spirited

My aunt is a true cowgirl. She's an "untamed filly" and has a bumper sticker on her truck, "back down city boy" Love it.
