  3. Depends on the award, and who's giving it.  Some are based solely on aesthetics, while others on challenge and creativity.  Still others are based on ease of play and accessibility.

  4. some are awarded based on who designed it, which is a shame.... some are awarded on tradition, just because they're 100+ years old, even though they aren't THAT great
