Depending on what type of hip-hop.

If its the up-beat hip-hip, it has to be full of energy, it has to be hype, have great moves so that people can be like WOW!!!! Make sure the moves are hard hitting.

If its the "Lyrical hip-hop" ( slow hip hop) have a story behind it and make sure the moves are hard hitting, but graceful at the same time.

I think it depends on the style of the dance. If it's a faster hip-hop, I'd say rhythm is the most important factor. If it's more of a lyrical style, then you want to bring emotion into play.

And if it's a group dance, then UNISON! Nothing looks worse than a group hip-hop dance where people aren't together, but nothing looks better than a group hip-hop dance in which everyone's timing is perfectly together.
