What makes a good local pub?

I tend to move from one pub to the other and not sure what I am looking for. There never seems to be one pub that makes me stay there.

What do you look for?

Local pubs is wonderful!! You want to know why? Its because they all try to be different from one Pub to another. You'll have one that wants to be the relax place. Another with a bunch of games, or another one you might as well call it American Idol Karaoke specials.  This is what you need to do. Find good vibes. And when I mean by that, is you to find what you enjoy best. Pretty much how you going to know that is by testing them all and make the call what you like better. Try new types and see which Pub seems to have people with your best interests, see if they have pool(if you like the game) or they show sports on TVs. And always find a place that plays the music you can tolerate because if you don't.....you will get irritated and might start bar fights not always a good deal. If it has people that you can say "Hey these are my best buddies" My theory is you found the right place. I always go somewhere different, I like the change of pace, but not everyone is me. Just think of finding a Pub is like finding that right car for you. Happy Pub Hunting and cheers!

I've worked in the bar business forever- friendly staff,safe, fun environment makes a world of difference. One of the main things is having a connection w/ the staff, the other patrons will come soon after.  A little advice -don't be cruising for girls- make this a comfortable second home.  Take someone new somewhere else.  This should be your place w/ no worries of running into an uncomfortable situation- good luck

I look for:

Friendly wait and bar staff; no gossip and drama ppl

Easy access- good location

Positive atmosphere.

Good wing night.

Karaoke night.

Happy hour specials!

Good music.

Small dance floor.

People who like to talk. Not just everyone in there ordering drinks, sulking and not speaking to anyone. There has to be a jukebox. After I've had a few I like to listen to tunes. Pinball machines are necessary. I enjoy pinball.
