  1. if he isn't started over fences, then you'll probably want to start small.

horses aren't "used" to jumping things unless it's for getting away from something that they don't want to be around.

my suggestion is to start small- (they learn quickly)

i usually start my horses over fences with a common method:

    1. start the horse over ground poles, this teaches them to pick their feet up, and also, that big long sticks aren't so scary :)

    2. !!!!!!!!WHEN RIDING YOUR HORSE OVER ANYTHING, NEVER LOOK DOWN!!!!!!!!!! that is the MOST IMPORTANT rule!! :] horses can feel your hesitation.. NEVER look at the jump, but instead, past it. as soon as they feel your body weight shift, they freak out.

    3. once they get used to ground poles, start with a simple cross rail, with ground poles still infront of it.

    4. once the horse is comfortable, take the ground poles away.

    5. if your horse continues to refuse the jump, turn him around, and stop him two feet away (close to the jump) and ask him to walk over it.

if he's afraid, he'll do a massive leap over it.

raised cavaletti poles are by far the most helpful thing. they teach your horse how to jump, and the horse doesn't have to worry about the giant stands on either side of him.

    =-) hope i could help

  2. I used to have a little arab that I made jump 1m.5 and he cleared it with ease!

Any horse has the potentiol to do it evetually if they are tall enhough plus they enjoy jumping and can physically do it.

Ask a instructor to help you build your horse up as there are 100s of exercises that can help

  3. Yes, like others have said, start simple with ground poles. I would range jumps too, different heights. Start with course with 40-65 cm jumps. Build his confidence up. Slowly increase the heights of all of the jumps. ie 5 cm. He should be able to build steadily. If he falters, try again gently. If he refuses more than 3 times at a height lower it a bit and work up again.

  4. TBs are known for their fantastic jumping capabilities! how young is he? first make sure he can physically do it, talk to your vet and trainer

what makes a good 1m jumper:

balance, propulsion, plenty of spring, correct use of kness, shoulders, and elbows, hocks, head, and neck, not heavy on forehand, speed, agility, straightness, acceptance, calmness, a good listner, trust, solid flatwork, able to turn tightly and quickly, and most important he must be happy with what hes doing.

Training: theres not a specific type of training for training 1m. Its constant training to have solid flatwork before you jump. Theres training exercises that help with courses like grids and bounces. Plus, you can jump him over different fences that are set to 3 feet. There is a bounce called a hogs back with a small vertical in front, large in middle, and small in back, this teaches your horse to pay attention to his strides and feet. Do not bounces very often cuz its hard on your horses legs. Just practice riding consitently with courses and single fences. You can also try different fences such as different oxers, verticals, solid fences (such as walls), cross rails, and even trot and canter poles.

    work with your trainer.

good luck with your TB, i have one too
