  1. A Myth is something that it popular to believe, but not true -  like the one about tossing a penny from the top of the empire state building, some believe if it hits a person walking on the street, it will kill them ... it won't.

    A legend is something that is believed but cannot be proved.


  2. myth - a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon

    legend -  a story coming down from the past; especially : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable
