The belief/ thought/ action.....or the declaration?

If a person doesn't belief in god....in any shape or form, but declares them self a Christian. What are they?

If a person beliefs in small gov, lower tax's, and dislikes Obama and Clinton....but says they are democratic are they?

If a person thinks men and women are equal, believes that gender roles are a social standard...but says that arnt a feminist are they?

So what is it? Do actions speak louder then words?

or is self declaration necessary?

  1. People who do something but deny wanting to do something have issues - they should see a psychiatrist! :-)

  2. heres a few more twists to this ponderance...

a bisexual who has never had a sexual encounter with either gender...

a transexual who is yet to begin transition

a blind bigot who has never seen skin color

sometimes i think it takes a declaration to convince yourself, sometimes a declaration to convince others... and sometimes a declaration or action arent necessary at all... it just takes insight into ones own being.

the first and second examples are prime for someone who may know themselves well enough to need no action, or declaration for defintion... the definitions are purely for the sake of others... the third is an example where actions speak louder than anything else. for someone to say they are a bigot dosent make them one... but when they hate others for something so trivial...... it dosent matter if they say it or not, they are.

this question was brilliant by the way, it shows no only insight into yourself, but the nature of both society and humanity. i love reading questions like this.

  3. a person becomes sumthing when he starts doing something gud for the society and becomes honest and truthful towards himself.

  4. The beliefs and actions.  Using your first example, there's no way you're a Christian if you don't believe in God.  They have to believe in God, and also that Jesus is Lord and Savior to actually be a true Christian.  Even just believing in God doesn't make one a Christian.

I think you're getting Democrat and democrat mixed up on your second one.

Your third one is a little harder to define.  If feminist means somebody who believes in equal rights then they are.  If feminism means only focusing on women's rights, then they probably aren't.  I've seen feminism defined in both of those ways in the same exact dictionary before.

  5. I think actions and words hold similar weight. Self declaration is only necessary if the person has a low self esteem.

  6. D. all the above

  7. 1.  If a person doesn't belief in god....in any shape or form, but declares them self a Christian. What are they?

    Nobody does this.

    2. If a person beliefs in small gov, lower tax's, and dislikes Obama and Clinton....but says they are democratic are they?

Your country's Democratic Party is to us in Canada right-wing.  My point is that  this stuff is totally subjective.

    3. If a person thinks men and women are equal, believes that gender roles are a social standard...but says that arnt a feminist are they?

You are referring to the "I'm Not A Feminist But... Feminists".  A sign of the times, of the effects of the pop-culture media driven backlash.

    4. So what is it? Do actions speak louder then words?

    or is self declaration necessary?

Learn to read between the lines.  There you will find the truth.
