What makes a skate spot illegal?

For a skate spot to be illegal does there have to be a no skating sign. Would it be illegal for me to climb a fence into a ditch and skate there? So what are the laws about skate spots?

Chances are that if you have to hop a fence it's illegal.

Anything that's private property is off limits.

Normally that also applies to major buildings and businesses as well.

Skate parks are pretty much the safest place to be.
