The main thing that makes a source viable is where you found the source and its credentials.  An example would be, say you were researching the effects of drinking alcohol.  Using your friend's blog as a source talking about how they felt while getting trashed at last weeks party would not be as viable a source as say a publication found in Science magazine that tested the mental and physical effects of alcohol.  When doing research you usually want to stay away from .com sites as they are for commercial use (i.e. they want to sell you something), unless they are for a peer reviewed journal.  Your best choices for online information are either peer reviewed journals or .edu and .gov sites.  However if you do find information on a site try and find some information about the source you used.  Ask yourself "Why should I believe what this person has to say about this topic?, What makes their information reliable"?. Hope this is what you were looking for.


  2. A source is viable once u give complete credit to the person who wrote the piece used.
