What makes a t.v. shut off randomly?

My t.v. shut off last night while I was watching it. I was able to turn it right back on. At first I thought the power had gone out, but it hadn't. What would make a t.v. just suddenly and randomly turn itself off? It's not old or anything.

You may have an "energy saver" setting that you are unaware of and you set it off by mistake or there could have been a power surge that only affected certain appliances, including the tv. l've had that happen.

it may be faulty wiring which cause a short circuit and the tv shut off so as not to damage itself it a safety feature common in many appliances

I belong to many audio video forums and this happens all the time.  The number one reason.  Low batteries in the remote.  When the batteries get low, they will start to send out sporadic pulses that trick the remote into thinking something was pushed.  Normally it's the power button.  Just replace the batteries and this should solve the issue.

Many, many people have said just replacing the batteries cured their gear from turning on and off by itself.
