  1. less flex of a longer one .... like in a truck you wouldnt be able to go over any rought ground that would back the rear end drop  or bounce... very high without one..... flexable


  2. Can't have a one piece because the suspension moves, therefore the drive shaft must accommodate the movement by means of a slip yoke.

    A three piece is used when the angle are greater than 15°.  A "CV joint" is added @ the diff. On a long wheel base pickup a steady bearing is use to support a long shaft, also considered a 3 piece.

  3. a three piece will have a greater flexibility to compensate for a larger suspension travel.
