Well, for the past 3 months I've been taking my for expedition to a ford company and I've been telling the service people my vehicle is jerking after driving off from traffic lights , stops signs, or driving upward hills. This has not happen before. Something is wrong with my vehicle. If I start to drive off the vehicle will stall then jerk and take off. This is dangerous to me.But, the company tells me to wait until the red light come on , because we don't see a problem

  1. a. If this car was purchased recently:

Research your state's lemon laws and send the required letter informing them that if they do not fix the problem on your next visit, you will return the car for a full refund...  Suddenly, they will gain the ability to fix things that they never could before...  Yes, I am being semi-sarcastic.  What I mean is that they will gain the willingness to fix things that they could have fixed already, but did not.

    b. If you have had this car too long for the lemon laws to apply: go to another mechanic.

  2. Take it to another mechanic so he can take a look at it. I hate Ford and I hate everything about their customer service and vehicles.

  3. Well, I know with the Ford Escort, if you get jerking going uphill, or accelerating past a certain speed, it feels like the transmission is searching between OD and high.  But the solution is simple - spark plugs.  This is well-documented.  Check your plugs, it may be as simple as that.  When was your last tune-up?

  4. It could be anything from a fuel issue to a transmission problem, if it is under warranty find another dealership and if it out of warranty find an independent shop and dont wait for the light to come on..

  5. That sounds typical of car dealers.

I suppose it is difficult to diagnose, but

it sounds to me like they just giving you

    the run-around.

You need to INSIST that they take a test

drive with you in the vehicle.  As you say

it's dangerous and you could possibly

be involved in an accident before the

check engine light ever comes on.

It could be a clogged fuel line, dirty filter or

any number of things, but unless they

experience it themselves they might not

be able to find the problem.
