foils are special mainly just because they are worth more money then regular cards, You can get foil lands, enchantments or creatures... foil lands are worth the least amount of money. But to answer your question nothing is really special about them except for their market value... they are worth a little more money then regular cards... Rares (rare cards are also worth a lot of money) sometimes more than the foil cards depending on what you get
