  1. An assessment is carried out on the population numbers of a species to determine it's status. IUCN provides a conservation status for threatened species.

The creature is deemed Endangered when it's numbers are critically low. This may be the result of loss of habitat, over hunting, inability to adapt to new environmental conditions, a recent introduction of a new predator threatening their existence, disease etc.

  3. When the population of the species is low enough that it could die out.

  4. I believe that it's just a decline in the amount of that species as compared to how many there used to be.

For a quick (and not accurate) example say in 2000, there were 1,000 frogs and in 2010, there ended up being only 600, that would defiantly make them endangered.

  5. lots of features make an animal endangered such as destruction of habitat, when the numbers of a species decreaces to a certain amount it is them considered endangered of becoming extinct.
