What makes an equation linear??

  1. When the exponent of the first term of an equation is equal to 1.

    example. x+2

    *the equation is linear since the exponent of x is 1

    *if the exponent of the first term is 2 and above, its not a linear equation


  2. An equation is linear if it has a variable raised to the first power. So you can't have x squared or anything higher than x
