What makes and models are compatible with a 1990 25HP Mercury outboard motor?

l need to know specifically about the lower unit

An Evinrude or Johnston would be compatible.  The wiringand controls are different!!her Mercury engines are similar with respect to electrical and controls.

i think the only one that would be compatable would be the mercruiser. both are made by brunswick corperation.

If it is mechanical parts you need a 1990 Mariner 25 horse is identical except for being grey. The same size engine of either the Mercury or the Mariner several years either side of 1990 will also work. The 20 HP from 1986 and earlier is also the same except for a few timing parts. If it is electrical parts you need there are a lot of small parts from the 20 HP to the 250 HP that might work, it would be dependent on what you need. No mechanical parts and very few electrical parts from any other manufacture will work. Also The Mercursier is a car engine so part from it won't work on an outboard.
