I'm not saying they're guaranteed a playoff spot by any means, I'm just wondering why anybody would think this team wouldn't make it. I understand someone not wanting them to make it, but what are your theories on why they won't. I'm not just saying this because I'm a Cubs fan, but I think they have the best offense in the National League and I think their stats prove it. Not to mention they've had the best record in the NL all year long and the best record in baseball for about half the year. Currently their team stats look like this:

3rd in MLB in BA at .278 (1st in the NL)

Tied for 1st in MLB in OBP at .355 (1st in the NL)

6th in MLB in SLG at .441 (3rd in the NL)

4th in MLB in H at 1,027 (2nd in the NL)

7th in MLB in HR at 121 (4th in the NL)

2nd in MLB in RBI at 525 (1st in the NL)

2nd in MLB in R at 555 (1st in the NL)

2nd in MLB in TB at 1,631 (1st in the NL)

1st in MLB in BB at 419 (1st in the NL)

  1. I think the Cubs the edge over the brewers in terms of experience, and their patience at the plate will get the runs per game up enough for Harden , Zambrano, Dempster, and Lilly to get it done. Especially with Marmol and Wood closing it out.  In the playoffs those top 3 starters will be hard to beat!

  2. i really dont know why! i mean were coming form like last placce to 1st... so i think we deserve it! lets not make it 100!

          go CUBS!!!!♥♥♥

  3. Your stats are nice, but pitching wins championships.  I just worry about the bullpen.  Howry is terrible!  Marmol looks like Bruce Sutter one batter and Mel Rojas the next. (I don't know if you are old enough to remember those guys)  The Brewers have problems there too.  If the Cardinals had a good closer, they could be in 1st place.  If either of them makes a decent move for a closer, they will compete to the end with the Cubs.

Also, how long is Wood going to be out and will he be effective?

  4. I really dont know

the Central is up for grabs, anybody can win

they just have no evidence to back that up

  5. Go White Sox!!!

  6. not using the past, thats jsut as stupid as saying one of the nba teams (maybe 76ers or new orleans) arent going to go anywhere because they havent had good postseason success, and thats espn making that stupid argument

however, i still think the cubs wil make the playoffs, the concern is that the brewers are now seriously division contenders, which means if they win the division, the phillies or mets can take the wild card, i see the cubs making the playoffs, dont know if it will be as a champ or wild card, i hope they would win the division, cause that means the mets would most likely verse the cubs if they make it, and id rather see the mets play the brewers than the cubies. sorry that i dont like to use periods

  7. You guys are in the same boat as us. A tight division race and a lot of haters out there. I hope you guys go deep into the playoffs, and hopefully to the World Series. I'd love to see you there but the d**n Angels have beaten us 6 (tonight makes 7) games in a row, and after tonight, 7 out of 8 games we've played against them.  Both of us will be in the playoffs, but it may be a Cubs/Angels World Series.

  8. The main reason I can think of is that they have more competition than any other of the NL divisional teams, meaning if they don't win the division they'll still have to fight someone in their own division for the wild card (I'm assuming the wild card will come from this division).  Cubs also have some star players who have a history of getting injured (Soriano, Edmonds, Wood).  Injuries can kill any team no matter how good they are, I don't think they'll miss the players but this is the only reason I can think of.

Cardinals have had injury problems so they'll start to pick it up and probably will stay with the Cubs and Brewers for a while if not the whole season.

Brewers made moves to win it all this year, and they seem very motivated to do whatever it takes this season to win it all because next season their will be major changes if that doesn't happen.

  9. The Cubs past is just what it is though. People think because it's happened that many times -- them collapsing -- it's going to happen again. That's definitely not the case, but the only way we're going to stop hearing that from Cubs haters is if we win it all. I think this team has a very good shot of making the playoffs, and even making some noise in the playoffs. People that don't like the Cubs aren't going to be convinced until we win it all though. You can't let them get to you, you think they're a good team and they're entitled to their opinion.

I'm a Cubs fan too, but it's just part of being a fan of the team, I just try to not let it get to me.

  10. stats arent everything.  The games they win, they win by many points and are blowouts.  The games they lose are low scoring and many are 1 point games.  They look like they will fare well in the playoffs, which isnt what i thought early in the season.  Will they make it there?  well probably.  Personally i think the cardinals will go in with them.  The recent push by the brewers was caused by a huge jump in confidence with the addition of sabathia.  Sabathia almost seemed untouchable, and not only did it get them 4 wins, but the whole team was performing better.  I think after this cubs series (unless they win the next two in great fashion), they will continue down mediocrity road.

  11. I hope the Cubs do make the playoffs and win it all. But expect the Brewers to put up a great fight.

  12. idc about stats its the way tht they are playing  now thats is scary they are 5and6 for their last 11 games and to stay on top of the central with the cardinals and brewers(1gb) they may not win the central but the wild card will proably ne the way they make they playoffs

  13. the fact that they let the teams slip into contention. And the fact the brewers signed CC, although the cubs beat up on him, hes still nasty, also who can count out the Cardinals, 2nd best franchise in MLB history, and usually are always in the run and look at their lineup/rotation and then look at the cubs, dont you think that the cubs should be leading by more games?

  14. I personally think that the Cubs will make it to the playoffs but i will argue against it.

Rich Harden has been injury-prone throughout his career, even this year (beginning of the year) so what makes you think he will be healthy enough?

Soriano has been on the DL for almost half of the year so what makes you think he's healthy?

Soto, Lee, and Ramirez have signifigantly cooled down.

Kerry Wood is on the DL.

The Brewers are breathing down there backs.

With all this said, the Brewers can easily catch up to the Cubs b/c Sheets and C.C. are both spectacular this year and even better, Sheets hasn't gotten injured this year.

The Phillies are also there for the wildcard and they have a better offense then the Cubs.

For all we know, the Cubs can break down in mid-August and finish the season in 3rd place in the division!
