  1. Did you mean Concrete? Cement is a binder. It binds sand, gravel and rocks to make concrete. It's use can be traced back to over 2,000 years. As far back as Alexandria, it was used in an under water capacity for footing for piers in the harbors of the ancient world.

  2. sand is mixed to stable the cement thats why cement become suitable.

  3. Cement has special bonding properties and mortar made with cement

has been proven a good binder and possess long lasting load bearing strength.

Cement mortars have been shown to have high levels of flexural bond strength. High tensile bond strength is enhanced by the following properties of cement mortars:

Tensile Bond Strength - This is the strength of the mortar that holds the masonry units together. High tensile bond strength is developed by the following mortar characteristics:

    1. Cement provides high water retention that allows for maximum early curing of the cementitious materials.

    2. High initial flow which permits easy complete coverage of masonry units.

    3. The low air content of cement mortar increases bond strength.

    Other factors:

    Durability & whole-life costs:-

Concrete components, and brick and block work constructed with appropriate CEMNENT MORTARS, are long lasting and resistant to attack from the weather and environmental pollutants. And, as noted cement-based solutions are highly beneficial when considered on a ‘wholelife’ cost basis. Concrete is also one of the most environmentally friendly building materials and is fully recyclable.

    Mass-related benefits:-

Housing constructed of brick, block or concrete has a high ‘thermal mass’ – absorbing heat energy, particularly from solar gain. This

prevents a high peak temperature build-up. Wide fluctuations in temperature are evened out, providing more comfortable interior

conditions especially during the summer months. Brick, block and concrete-based construction has additional mass-related benefits, including better acoustic insulation and fire protection.  Upmarket housing often incorporates concrete floors because of the mass-related benefits of acoustic insulation.

    Structural benefits:-

Concrete floors can be laid in long spans, allowing great flexibility in building form and layout. Internal walls do not have to be loadbearing, which offsets the higher initial cost of concrete floors. Interior space planning is not restricted, and there is also freedom to rearrange the interior layout at a later date.Brick/block and mortar interior walls have an advantage over partitioning in that they can receive secure fixings at any point.

    Design benefits:-

Cement and its extensive applications provide enormous scope for solving design problems from both practical and aesthetic standpoints.

Cement-based products are the core of tried and tested construction methods – brick andblock, for example – which allow for alterations

and adjustment during the course of construction. In addition to reliability, cement based solutions also bring individuality and

innovation to housing design – because of their vast range of applications and design versatility.

  4. i think the cemistry in the cement acts with the particals in the air which makes it from moist to unmoist its like taking dry crumbled dirt put water in it and then drying it to make it harder.
