  1. The term Kosher is in reference to the method in which it  was prepared.  Kosher foods must conform to Jewish dietary laws. These include ways of slaughtering animals and growing produce.  Some foods do not need kosher certification. For example: Unprocessed grains and cereals are kosher. Processed items (e.g. dry cereals, baked goods) frequently contain small quantities of non-kosher ingredients; therefore Orthodox rabbis advise against consuming such products without a hechsher (mark of rabbinical certification of kashrut) on the product. Other items that are considered kosher are plain tea, salt, 100% cocoa, carbonated water and coffee.

  2. Kosher meat is slaughtered a particular way and meat and dairy can not be consumed at one pork and shellfish forbidden your best to google kashrut ( Jewish dietary laws)

  3. First of all, there are a set of biblical Jewish laws that state that pork, rabbit, eagle, owl, catfish, sturgeon, and any shellfish, insect or reptile are non-kosher.  Beef and poultry are both kosher as long as they are slaughtered in accordance with Jewish dietary laws.  I lived near a slaughter house and I heard that they had a Rabbi come by monthly to inspect, supervise and bless the cattle in order to make them Kosher.

Most foods are marked on their packaging weather they are kosher or not.  For example the Coca-Cola company is Jewish owned and all of their product is Kosher you can determine this by looking for the "K" mark or K inside a diamond symbol near the bar code on the can or bottle of soda.

I think the Jewish Laws are a little more in depth than this so I would do some more research if I were you,  just google, "What is kosher food?" and investigate a little more if you need to.
