What makes clothes fade when they're in the sun?

Its an obvious happening. clothes fade when theyre in the sun. but what happens to them that makes them fade? it boggles me.

  1. The chemicals that make up the colors are broken down by ultraviolet light that is in sunshine.

    The sun's rays damage the cloth whether its white or colored. Colored clothing suffers more because of the visible damage: fading (due to ultraviolet light.

    It's better to dry clothes under the shade where there is good ventilation for proper evaporation of moisture in the clothes.
