Question:

What makes famous people go off the rails?

Pete Doherty, Britney Spears, that fat lad off Grange Hill, Joey Barton, Maradona...

Is it the fame, or would they've been like that regardless? Should young celebrities be mentored as a matter of course to protect them from going astray?

We seem to be in an age when everyone wants to be famous. Just say no!

  1. What happens is, according to my cousin who is in a famous band, you strive and strive for money, fame, recognition, etc.........and then you finally get it................ and find out it just doesnt make you happy.

So you panic, and start grasping at something that will, like s*x, drugs, relationships, alcohol, etc.

  2. They were probably a bit unbalanced in the first place - I think you'd have to be to crave that much attention. Then when they get up there with all that money and attention and fakeness around, it must be easy to spiral out of control.

  3. As an ex-pro entertainer, I've read many celeb bios

Many have been driven to seek fame thru deep feelings of emptiness, worthlessness, etc

& the temptations & pressures of the 24x7 'goldfish bowl' have driven many over the edge

  4. I would say it is the combination of varieties of pressure--media, too much free time, and the fact that those who go round the twist are shallow and can't handle it all.

Notice there are some who are famous who are able to remain normal. We just hear the most about those who are nutters. Well, nutters, barking mad, and right prats. They are all over the place in their degree of insanity.

  5. paparazzi makes the go crazy

  6. Fame, thats it really! The more famous they get, the more money they get, the more they have to spend on drugs etc.....

If you think about it, its their choice. Many celebs have quiet loves and you barely hear a word from them.

  7. Love your description of the lad off Grange Hill!!!

Robbie Williams is another, Alien hunting anorak apparently?

I think they have too much money and when they have done what they 'think' they have always wanted to do, at such a young age, they are still impressionable regarding drink/drugs etc.  I think they do it because they can - they feel immune to its effects - sadly, as press coverage shows(extract 70% and you then have a more realistic view on what they print) - no one is immune.

    :)

  8. I think it because everyone is always rushing up to them and with all that money they can buy whatever they want

  9. too much free time, too much money, and an unnatural lifestyle of media intrusion

i also think a lot of performers are attention-seeking tw@ts, and when theyre not the centre of attention they get stressed

    eg britney spears

  10. I think it mainly comes down to pressure.
