What makes food cosher?

Question

(I hope I spelled it right), But in Judaism, what has to be done to the food for it to be cosher ?

One of the most common and incorrect mistakes people make is to say that the food "must be blessed by a rabbi" in order for it to be kosher.  That is completely untrue.  It is an entire process that has to take place, starting with it being an "allowed" animal (ex: cows, chicken, fish,  bulls...not pigs, shellfish etc).  There are several classifications for a kosher animal.  Then it has to be slaughtered and prepared in a very specific way.

Kosher foods are those that conform to the Jewish dietary laws. Reasons for food being considered non-kosher include the presence of ingredients derived from non-kosher animals or from kosher animals that were not properly slaughtered, a mixture of meat and milk, wine or grape juice (and their derivatives) produced by gentiles, the use of produce from Israel that has not been tithed properly, or even the use of cooking utensils and machinery which had previously been used for non-kosher food.

It has never touched any ingredients on the list of no-no's (ie: pork), the meat has come from kosher animals, and the food has not been touched by gentiles. I believe it also has to have been blessed by a rabbi.

I think its any type of animal that is consider to be "clean." Like they dont eat pork because its dirty or it eats something bad or its processed weird.

My boyfriends Jewish. I think Ill ask him tonight.

It has to do with the way the food is prepared (killed, cut, packaged, cooked, served) I think? lol

it become kosher becuase at the plant where they process the food their is a jewish priest that blesses the food
