I know that they have some kind of poison in their system but how did it get there? Is that their defense? Do they have it in the wild? Are there any in the wild? Is it something in their diet or genes? I was just confused. I know not to feed them to any of my animals but I never fully understood why.

  1. its not POISON, just feeding TONS of them can give animals thymene deficiancies.

Kind of llike how it would be bad if you continuously ate candy.

  2. Never heard of goldfish being dangerous to reptiles, who told you they have poison in their system? I worked at pet smart and they were fed to red eared slider turtles. I think whoevere told you this misinformed you.

They generally are not recommended for reptiles because the reptile may get parasites from them, but poisonous? No way.
