  1. the rust is a chemical reaction in which the iron is reacting with oxygen (which is also present in water). the more the concentration of salt (Na Cl) the quicker the reaction because the salt is a catalyst in this reaction. catalysts are things that speed up the reaction.


  2. Rusting is the process of oxidation of iron in presence of moisture and oxygen. Actually water is the only thing needed for rusting of iron.but without presence of oxygen,it's very difficult.Drainage pipes are made with cast iron because oxygen is not available underground and rusting doesn't take place.

    Fe(s) gives rise to Fe2+ + 2e

    2H2O + 2e gives rise to H2 +2OH-

    This is an electrochemical reaction.
