What makes my vans rpm's go way up while i am driving down the road? ?

it acts like it is stuck in that gear. rpm's go high. could it be the speed control sensor? put in neutral to get engine to idle correctly.. please help.

    assuming it`s automatic, about 10 years old, and you are now over sensitive to the tachometer, it`s likely that the "lockup torque converter" lock isn't locking or is getting a signal from the computer to unlock because it thinks you want to accelerate

    Ir the solenoid that locks the torque converter is going bad, which is common.

    All `96 and newer cars have the stupid OBD-II computer system that can give any of 999 "codes" and any little thing can trip them up. Then you have to pay $300 to have it PROPERLY diagnosed at the dealer by people who are trained every month, so you dont pay more money by some "joe" who is just guessing..
