What makes new grass lighter in color. Will it blend later or do we need to add something?

The new grass is very soft and we need to know when to mow. Have removed the straw but lighter color stands out like a "sore thumb"

  1. I'm guessing, but if it's the same species of grass, I suspect it'll get darker as it builds up more chlorophyll.

  2. First is the new grass the same as what is already there? If it is then put a starter fertilizer  on the new grass. Then in about a month r so when the grass is rooted then fertilizer all the grass and it should be about the same color. It may take a growing season for it not to be noticeable at all.

  3. If you just recently removed the straw then that means the new grass hasn't had time to photosynthesize to sunlight!  Grass needs the sun to help turn its blades green.

Give it some time, continue on its regular watering schedule and you should see greener grass in a few days.  Also make sure the grass gets fed good fertilizer.  It needs that boost to get growing.

  4. Don't worry, its just young, fresh grass. If it's the same type as the rest of your grass it will match shortly. --as soon as it matures a bit, probably in a few weeks.

If it still doesnt match in color later on, fertilize it all with the same type fertilizer (like Scott's brand).
