  1. Of course, expensive is going to be a relative term.  A general rule of thumb is from $0-500, you really get what you pay for.  Beyond $500, you're paying mostly for fancy inlays, ivory, wrap, or some other source of collectibility.  The cue is your tool for this game and for a serious player, it should become an extension of your arm.  Best of luck.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S. Mickey makes a good point.  More expensive does not always mean better.  In general, if you're talking about jointed cues, it would be rare to find a $50 cue that plays as well as a $400 cue, but not impossible.  Frankly, a brand new one piece bar cue will play as well as anything you can buy.

  2. I really think it is just a "head" game that one plays up to get yo to buy their cue......why would you pay more for the "Mercedes" name versus "Ford".....the name is hyped up in my opinion....but you still have to consider the quality of the wood......also the "hype" that comes with a certain "winning" player playing with it helps the price also......most good name cues are all the same to me.....personally the "theory" fo the "Predator" answers best all of the questions that one would have in getting the best playing cue......maybe it is a "head" game but it is to me.. so in my "head" it is by far the best shaft made.....from there you can get "fancy" or pretty inlays to get the price up......but to me if you are carrying a really "pretty boy" stick ...you better have game........a "sneaky pete" will be just that....more sneaky.......go blow your wad on those high dollar cues....."you still have to shoot" and keep me off the table!!!
