spring: several artichokes in a white porcelain bowl

A short flower arrangement (so you can see the people across the table)... or several short, fat candles on saucers (different sized candles) ...  Or, if you have a theme, something that goes with that:  i.e. scattered seashells,  a bowl of lemons or apples.  If it were a tropical party, you could scatter some small silk orchids around seashells or fruit...a Mardi Gras party, you could drape some Mardi Gras beads out of a martini glass...(just a few examples)

Centerpieces should be short not to block the view of anyone from seeing each other around the table ...... I think your centerpieces should match the season of the year or the type of party or celebration you are having ....... flowers are fine as long they are in a short vase ...... and floral centerpiece that stays low and flat against the table is even better ....... candles are a great choice also ....... lit candles give you a feeling of elegance ...... if you want to use candles, please choose unscented candles so they don't take away from the taste and smell of your food ....... fruit center pieces are also nice for centerpieces ....... stacking fruits in a bowl are quiet popular these days ....... lemons are limes are some of my favorites to use ......once you have a clear plate or bowl or vase, use your imagination design something fun ....... for example, when I have game night with my friends, I fill a square vase with multicolored gumballs ....... looks great and is great for a fun game night ......... = )

the best center piece does not block the eye contact of the dinners.. no scented candles.....you want to smell the food not the candles...you can carry out your theme or just have a vase with flowers and couple of tea candles, the centerpiece is only limited by your imagination so let it flow...happy entertaining
