  1. Till it flies and proves, the name will just be a hope. It is a collection of advanced technologies and comparitively light.  80% volume of the 787 is composite and that is supposed to be giving fuel savings. Similarly, more friendly glass cockpit, bleedless turbofans, 6000 feet pressurization and such improvements give it an edge over the competitors.

As for the naming, please check the link below.

  2. well, the seating inside of it is supposed to be quite a bit more spacious, the entire design of the plane was to make the flight "smoother"

  3. Because the thing is so d**n nice inside.  Have you seen the inside of it?

  4. The way that it's getting behind schedule, I'd say that the only time you'd ever see it fly would be in your dreams.

  5. Ummmmm, maybe THE MARKETING Dept???

  6. When Boeing was looking for a name, they posed the question to their "design team,"  a group of people on the web selected based on something that I can no longer recall.  I was one of the "team" but I've slept many times since them.   Dreamliner was not my choice, but apparently I was outvoted.  I still get occasional updates on the 787 from Boeing.

  7. I read that the name was selected after some sort of contest where school kids and so forth wrote in their choice for a name of the new airliner.  It was the most suggested name.

  8. From a passenger point of view, besides the fact that its gonna have higher passenger humidity(6000ft pressurization compared to 8000ft for other Aircraft), i really doubt its really gonna be more comfortable than any other thing flying today, so i wouldn't call it a dreamliner for passengers, but if Boeing gets it right, it'll be super efficient and burn less fuel, so i guess it'll only be a dreamliner for the Airlines who will fly it.
