  1. It is the individual type of grape that makes the wine. In general, black/red grapes make red wine and green grapes make white wine. The different flavours also come from factors like, the country its produced in, eg, the different soil. The length of time it is stored for also adds to the taste. Also, the oak barrels add to flavour.. . A lot of factors and ways of tradition make a wines flavours!!

  2. Salutations,

Generally speaking, Yes, it is the Grape. but there can be so much more too it then that. I would suggest going to a local wine shop and making an appointment with the Sommolier. Or maybe even making your own wine. I started with Mead, which is fermented Honey, and it is Fantastic!Cheers

  3. Primarily, it is the grape. Other factors are the strain of yeast and the process. For example, green grapes make white wine but red wine can make either red, rose, or white wines. If you want white wine, you press out the juice and ferment that. For red, you let it ferment on the skins to extract the color.Terroir, the place where the grapes are grown, has an effect but affects quality, not the type of wine. Age doesn't change the type of wine. However, certain types benefit from aging and others do not.
