What makes the fountain at the back of jet ski?

when pwc is running there's a spout of water like a fountain at the back.

  1. its just a trade mark the company adds to there product to differentiate there product from the other pwc.  I am no expert but it may be a bit of the cooling mechanism as well.    


  2. It's not on jet skis, it's on wave runners. Yamaha wave runners have a pump, driven by the engine, to shoot water up in the air like that. IMO it's just a pointless waste of power, however insignificant. It also makes it a pain in the *** to do any skiing, tubing or w/e behind it. It's just something Yamaha puts on their skis to make them unique. Pretty dumb though.

  4. It's called a "rooster tail" and it is supposed to do that.  Some jet ski's have that and some the water goes into the river, lake, whatever from underneath.  Depends on how the motor is set up.  Some people like theirs that way.  Taller the tail, faster the jet ski.......
