What makes they Yankees so great?

cuz if you ask someone, anyone, what their favorite team is, most likely they will say the team of whatever city they live in, the yankees, or maybe the red sox. What makes the yankees so popular throughout the US. I mean, like no one in CA will say the tigers are their favorite team, but like half the people in every state will ay the Yankees are their favorite team. What gives?

When you have enough cash to actually give people like A-Rod the money their making you will be good. And when you win 26 world series from cash. You will get a lot of Bandwagoners.

yankees are not great just because they won the world series alot dose not mean anything if there the best how come they blew off the the playoffs in almost 8 years straight they havint won the world series since 2000. the reason why every body says that the yankees are great is that they wow alot of titles in the .......................PAST.  BOSTON IS THE TEAM.

most of those fans are bandwagon fans...some might say the yankees becase their favorite player is on the yankees..and by they way there not the best team in baseball the have no team unity and no clutch hitting

In the last millennium the Yankees were such a big story, winning many pennants and championships.  There is a lot of history and great players associated with them and that has inspired a following.

People who like out of market teams are not necessarily bandwagoners or transplants.  For Example, in my own case, I am a life long New yorker (City)  and have been a Red Sox fan since 1966.  They finished ninth of ten that year, although they wnet to the series the next.  Would you call me a bandwagoner?

History in general. They're rich and deep in history. Ruth, Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig, etc have all donned the Pin-stripes being the legends they were and helped contribute to the 26 World Series Championships, so they have a real fan base. It's not centered just in NY, but anyone across the US who knows anything about baseball will have some knowledge about the legends that came up through the Yankee organization.
